Give the gift of The Rumpus Book Club and The Rumpus Poetry Book Club! Get books before they’re released, engage in moderated chats with the authors. When you purchase the gift subscription you get two months of membership free.
How The Rumpus Book Club works: Every month you get a book in the mail that hasn’t been released yet. Usually it will be fiction, but it might be memoir, or essays, or a graphic novel. We discuss the book all month while we read it. You’re invited to a moderated online discussion with the author at the end of the month which we’ll edit and run on The Rumpus as a feature article (like this one).
Some books we’ve featured in the book club include Wild by Cheryl Strayed, An Untamed State by Roxane Gay, Insurrections by Rion Amilcar Scott, Abandon Me by Melissa Febos, We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby, Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado, Heart Berries by Terese Mailhot, and All You Can Ever Know by Nicole Chung. Upcoming writers include Esmé Weijun Wang, T. Kira Madden, Maylis de Kerangal, Nicole Dennis-Benn, and more.
How The Rumpus Poetry Book Club works: Exactly the same as our regular book club, but with poetry! Every month we’ll choose a forthcoming poetry book, not yet available to the public. At the end of the month, we’ll host an exclusive online discussion with the book club and the author. We’ll publish an edited version of the discussion on The Rumpus the following month—to see what that looks like, go here. We’ve featured poets like Tracy K. Smith, Jericho Brown, Solmaz Sharif, Kaveh Akbar, Gabrielle Calvocoressi, Eloisa Amezcua, Tarfia Faizullah, and Kamilah Aisha Moon. Upcoming poets include Natasha Tretheway, Marwa Helal, Sally Wen Mao, Hala Alyan, Ilya Kominsky, Franny Choi, Natalie Scenters-Zapico, and more!
Subscribe by the 20th of the month to receive following month’s book and join in the chat with its author. For example, to receive our March book, please make sure to subscribe by February 20.
Please note that 6-month subscriptions are non-refundable.
We do not offer international Book Club and Poetry Book Club subscriptions at this time, but we hope to in the future.
